Our story
More than 30 years in Mt Victoria
Royal Thai opened its doors on Majoribank Street in 1996 with a simple promise: serve honest Thai food with warmth you can feel the moment you walk in. That was more than three decades ago — and Wellington has changed in many ways since then. What has not changed is the welcome.
Day after day, year after year, the same families return for birthdays and quiet Tuesday dinners. Neighbours pop in after work. Visitors stumble upon us while exploring Mt Victoria and leave planning their next trip back. That loyalty is not something you manufacture with marketing — it grows when people treat people well.
Our team are, quite simply, some of the loveliest people you will meet. They remember your usual order, ask after your kids, and take genuine pride in every plate that leaves the kitchen. It is hospitality in the truest sense — unhurried, attentive, and kind.

Our philosophy
Harmony in taste and aroma
Thai dishes must not be predominantly hot but should reach a perfect harmony in taste and aroma. A meal consists of at least three dishes with rice served all at the same time — each may be tasted at will.
With traditional and original dishes, we use the finest, freshest produce so every visit tastes as it should. That is the food. The welcome is everything else — and we have had thirty years to get both right.
